Περισσότερα από 100.000 νοικοκυριά έχουν βυθιστεί στο σκοτάδι από την Παρασκευή (29/01), στην περιοχή του Σαντιάγο, στη Χιλή, μετά τις βροχοπτώσεις ρεκόρ που έπληξαν την πρωτεύουσα και τα περίχωρά της, έγινε γνωστό από τις αρχές.
Από τις κατακλυσμιαίες βροχές συνολικά 112.833 νοικοκυριά δεν έχουν ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα, ενώ πολλοί τομείς στο Σαντιάγο πλημμύρισαν και η κυκλοφορία διεξάγεται μετ’ εμποδίων εξαιτίας των πτώσεων δέντρων. Δρόμοι έκλεισαν λόγω κατολισθήσεων.

Η περιοχή του Σαντιάγο, όπως και τα κεντρικά, πλήττονταν έως τώρα από τη χειρότερη ξηρασία των τελευταίων 60 ετών.
Οι σφοδρές βροχοπτώσεις, που αναμένεται να διαρκέσουν έως αύριο, σαρώνουν μεγάλο μέρος της Χιλής, με αποτέλεσμα η ηλεκτροδότηση να έχει διακοπεί σε σχεδόν 150.000 νοικοκυριά στη χώρα.
