Πάνω από 100 άνθρωποι σκοτώθηκαν σε μια επίθεση ενόπλων που σημειώθηκε την Τετάρτη (23/12) τα ξημερώματα στη δυτική επαρχία της Αιθιοπίας Μπενισανγκούλ-Γκουμούζ, ανακοίνωσε η κρατική επιτροπή ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων.
Ένοπλοι πυροβόλησαν ανθρώπους στην περιοχή Μπουλέν της επαρχίας και πυρπόλησαν σπίτια την ώρα που μέσα σε αυτά κοιμούνταν κάτοικοι, τόνισε η επιτροπή.

Νωρίτερα το πρακτορείο «Reuters», επικαλούμενο κατοίκους της περιοχής, έκανε λόγο για δεκάδες νεκρούς από την επίθεση, στο τελευταίο ξέσπασμα αιματηρής βίας μεταξύ αντιμαχόμενων εθνοτικών ομάδων στην περιοχή.
Η επίθεση σημειώθηκε την επόμενη ημέρα της επίσκεψης του πρωθυπουργού της Αιθιοπίας Άμπι Αχμέντ, του αρχηγού του στρατού Μπιρχανού Τζουλά και άλλων ανώτερων ομοσπονδιακών αξιωματούχων στην περιοχή, οι οποίοι απηύθυναν έκκληση για ειρήνη έπειτα από σειρά αιματηρών περιστατικών μεταξύ αντιμαχόμενων εθνοτικών ομάδων τους τελευταίους μήνες.
Η τελευταία μεγάλη επίθεση στην περιοχή σημειώθηκε στις 14 Νοεμβρίου, όταν ένοπλοι επιτέθηκαν σε λεωφορείο και σκότωσαν 34 ανθρώπους.
