Εκτεθειμένοι στην επέλαση του «Λεάνδρου» βρίσκονται χιλιάδες πρόσφυγες, οι οποίοι προσπαθούν να αντέξουν στις δύσκολες συνθήκες με το έντονο κρύο στους καταυλισμούς που διαμένουν, έχοντας στη διάθεσή τους μόνο… υπνόσακους και κουβέρτες.
Η κακοκαιρία είναι ιδιαίτερα απειλητική για τα άτομα αυτά, καθώς πολλοί από αυτούς κοιμούνται σε σκηνές δίχως καθόλου θέρμανση, νιώθοντας «σαν να είναι σε νεκροταφείο», όπως δηλώνουν οι ίδιοι.
Μάλιστα, στη Μαλακάσα πάγωσε ακόμα και το νερό της βρύσης, όπως ανέφερε ένας φιλοξενούμενος της δομής.

Στη Χίο, προκλήθηκαν σοβαρά προβλήματα στην ηλεκτροδότηση με αποτέλεσμα να μείνει χωρίς θέρμανση ο καταυλισμός της ΒΙΑΛ.

Επίσης, ανάλογες ήταν οι συνέπειες και στον Καρά Τεπέ της Λέσβου, όπου πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες προσπαθούσαν να ζεσταθούν με όποιον τρόπο μπορούσαν.
