Η δεύτερη χρονιά της πανδημίας της Covid-19 ενδέχεται να είναι δυσκολότερη από την πρώτη, δεδομένου του πώς εξαπλώνεται ο νέος κορονοϊός, ιδίως στο βόρειο ημισφαίριο όπου κυκλοφορούν πιο μεταδοτικές παραλλαγές του, προειδοποίησε ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας (ΠΟΥ).
«Μπαίνοντας στη δεύτερη χρονιά, τα πράγματα θα μπορούσαν να γίνουν χειρότερα, δεδομένου της δυναμικής μετάδοσης», είπε ο Μάικ Ράιαν, υψηλόβαθμο στέλεχος του ΠΟΥ, σε μια διαδικτυακή εκδήλωση.

Στην τελευταία επιδημιολογική έκθεσή του, ο Οργανισμός σημείωσε ότι, μετά από δύο εβδομάδες κατά τις οποίες καταγράφονταν λιγότερα κρούσματα, την περασμένη εβδομάδα αναφέρθηκαν περίπου 5 εκατομμύρια νέες μολύνσεις.
«Μετά τις διακοπές (σ.σ. των Χριστουγέννων) σε ορισμένες χώρες η κατάσταση θα χειροτερεύσει πολύ προτού να καλυτερεύσει», σχολίασε η αμερικανίδα επιδημιολόγος Μαρία Βαν Κέρκχοβ.
